This guy is a bully, he knows what he wants, how to get it and who he can easily exploit, he has the hallmark of a villain, as he is smart but uses it to his own gain and brings down others in the process.
Best book to screen adaption
Harry Potter (Harry Potter series)
Again, I only know so much (and who am I to judge with my limited knowledge concerning this fandom?) Charles Dickens language aside, The entire movie series seems pretty true to the books, Harry Potter especially.
Best character perception

Let me say (again) that no one other than Johnny Depp would be able to portray Captain Jack Sparrow. That's all I need to say (he simply had to be on the list)

I have a big urge to watch all four POTC movies and read all Narnia books... and start on Harry Potter too....
My top three reasons for wanting to watch this movie were, (1) Johnny Depp (2) Leonardo DiCaprio, and (3) young Johnny Depp.
It was received positively by both audiences and critics alike, and though the description on the back of the DVD sounds like a cheap summer novel, it really wasn't that bad.

"Living in Endora is like dancing to no music. Gilbert Grape (Depp) should know. Aside from a secret affair with a housewife (Mary Steenburgen), Gilbert spends his days stocking shelves at a grocery store, caring for his mentally handicapped brother (DiCaprio), and holding together a large family headed by Mama, a former beauty queen whose weight tops 500 pounds. But just when Gilbert thinks nothing will ever change, a pretty stranger (Juliette Lewis) arrives on the scene, capturing Gilbert's heart and inspiring him to make a break."
It sounds incredibly cheesy and just plain "Whaaaaat?" But I actually liked the movie, it had quite a few sad/heartbreaking scenes, a few awkward scenes (to tell the truth I don't think I would have liked the movie all that much if not for Johnny Depp as Gilbert Grape)
The Praying Mantis part.... random to say the least. As you might have guessed by now there are a couple of suggestive scenes, nothing revealing I found it incredibly awkward more than anything else. The movie has some scenes that don't really have anything to do with anything (let me rephrase that) this movie has something different, it's not predictable but it's not your typical twist and turn movie either, its just like real life I suppose, and that's what I like about this, it's a different kind of story than any other film I have ever watched.

Gilbert Grape was (obviously) my favorite character, though he did have moments where he acted like a jerk. (Even if you do feel sorry for him). Becky was my second favorite character, I feel like she and I are very alike, she is not this smooth talking socialite (like most girls are in movies) she is somewhat random, is herself and she likes the sky too! I also liked that she was nice and sweet but not sickeningly so. (She did have awful short hair) I really don't like it at all, on the other hand Johnny Depp looked rather nice in longer hair.
And DiCaprio's acting in this film has often been praised, and I concur, it is superb! Arnie has some sort of autism (I think) and DiCaprio really pulled it off, unless you knew of him you would never guess that he is actually healthy and normal in real life.
I definitely recommend that you give this movie a try!
Greetings I hope you are enjoying the world outside of your room, because I have come down with a summer cold (so have three of my siblings, so our house sounds like the children's ward of a hospital during flu season). Well back on topic I have plenty of time on my hands so I have been watching movies, lots of them. I tried to pick up a book but found it hard to concentrate (darn these head colds!) So I sat in front of a screen for 6 hours (probably not too healthy, but it's not like I'm not already sick).
Anyways I thought that I'd do some reviews, but differently today (still trying to find a good review style) so instead of giving you the plot or writing about the story I will give you the trailer (that way I can't spoil anything that you couldn't have looked up yourself) and then I will give you some revies on acting ect. Let's get started!
Mortdecai (2015)
First impression: The trailer makes this seem like an action packed (with some comedy) thrilling movie, and that it's for adults... my take on the movie is "It's as bad as the reviews said it was" I again watched because... Johnny Depp:) and again the movie was a flop (Having nothing to do with Depp) the movie was silly, stupid in fact. Charlie Mortdecai is the dumbest character I have ever seen (seriously) So is Jock, (Jock is the physically strong but mentally dumb kind) the movie desperately tried to make this a movie for older audiences (desperately) they tried mystery (didn't get it) they tried hinting things (Which were suppose to be funny, I'm not too good at being blunt in this case, i'm sure you get it). It was just stupid.
Main cast: Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Evan McGregor
Acting: I think the acting was pretty good considering the script they had to work with
Violence: Two people die, I wouldn't classify it as gory, one just went lifeless the other did involve some blood (a little) It all depends on your sensitivity.
Language: Let's see, there may have been a word or two, overall the movie is pretty clean
Genre: Action/Comedy
Indecent moments: There is that bathtub moment but nothing is shown (I assure you) and they are married... but there is plenty of hintings regarding Jock (it really disgusted me, what they were implying) but again nothing whatsoever is shown. (whew!) then there's a Georgina's meeting Mortdecai and something her father says, I think thats it...
Character development: There wasn't any really (which I hate), just a dumb movie
Final verdict: I do not recommend this movie
Disney's "Atlantis, the lost empire" (2001)
First Impression: I liked the movie well enough, It didn't really strike me as something I'd rave about or love to watch again, but I don't dislike it either.
Acting: The voice acting was good enough still 50/50 on the whole movie
Music/Singing: They had a pretty good soundtrack, but no singing (which is unusual for animated Disney)
My Disney rating: 5 out of 10
Final Verdict: Watch if you want to
The Tourist (2010)
First Impression: In a nutshell, I loved this movie!!! My parents told me about and had nothing against me watching it by myself. After all, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie? Great. I heard that Depp and Jolie did not get along, but by the chemistry between their characters, Elise and Frank, you never would have guessed. The movie had realistic looking action, romance and some comedic, charming and thrilling scenes. The movie wasn't one that laid out the whole plot in the first half hour (not one of those "Hero-gets-mission-and-goes-on-adventure" type,) this movie had you guessing, surprised and delighted, as all the puzzle pieces clicked into place over the course of the movie (love those types of movies!) I reall enjoyed the movie and I will definitely watch it again someday.
Main Cast: Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Paul Bettany, Steven Berkoff, Rufus Sewell, Christian De Sica, Alessio Boni
Acting: In one word "Superb"! Excellent, oscar worthy, all of that:)
Age appropriate: It's not the family type, by that I only mean that you have to be old enough to understand what is going, you need to be able to "get it" so I'd say 14 ish (could be 13 if you like some romance or don't mind it and "get it")
Inappropriate scenes: I am happy to say, none!
Genre: Action/romance
Final verdict: 10/10 and I definitely recommend that you watch the movie!

I promised you a movie review on a movie that was not from Disney, and... The Lone Ranger... still happens to be... a Disney movie... sorry? Well lets get right into it I am going to try to make this as spoiler-free as possible (spoilers are marked) ok then lets begin.
The movie had little success with audiences and was criticised. I had to see it for myself (mostly because Johnny Depp is in it) now that I have seen it I have to say I can see why it had little success, the movie was a little muddled, half the movie was spent getting to the point (meaning one hour of slogging through a... I don't even have a word for it) The lone ranger should have died about 10x before the movies end (lots of unrealistic scenes) The movie had a few good things (minor) 95% of the movie is just not worth ones time.
The movie is waaaaaaay too long to summarize so here are the main points *SPOILER (DUH)*
A boy in 1933 at a sideshow wanders into a tent with a Wild West exhibit, he finds an Indian named Tonto, old Tonto tells the story of himself and the Lone Ranger. We go back in time to 1869 to the town of Colby Texas. The railroad is just being build. Tonto (the indian) and an outlaw named Butch are chained up in the "prison section" of a train, Butch escapes even though another man on the train John (later The Lone Ranger) tries to stop him. John and Tonto rescue the passengers by disconnecting the engine from the rest they then derail, the clip is below now for a quick rant "HOW PRAY TELL, HOW DID THEY SURVIVE THAT?!!!!!"
And that's not even the just of it, the train continues to hurl towards them stopping inches from where they are sitting, convenient isn't it? I don't have a problem with somewhat unrealistic scenes (or a few unrealistic scenes), but this movie had me gagging. John then finds his brother Dan who is a ranger (something like a sheriff) Dan has a wife named Rebecca (Who apparently loves John more than she ever did Dan) and Dan has a son, Dan (Jr). They set out into the dessert (no clue why) but are ambushed by Butch's "gang" one by one the men in Dan's party are killed. Dan and John are both wounded, Butch comes down to "finish off" Dan (brutally I must say, I turned my head it was too gory for me) John is left for dead how come some men died from one bullet in the leg while John survived two in the chest?!!) Before he died Dan made John the new ranger. Tonto finds and buries the bodies (why he goes around burying raid victims nobody knows) oh and prior to this, Tonto was in jail, the boy from 1933 asks "How did you get out of jail?" (exactly what I would like to know, but the question was never answered) Tonto sees that John has the Ranger badge and gives him a proper Indian burial, on top of a very high platform (now when John woke up, that was amusing) They then stick together (more or less) and then blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada and yappity yappity yappity.
Butch Cavendish
My Complaints:
#1) Tonto (the indian) does not have enough lines (Johnny Depp is too good an actor for a mostly silent brave, they may as well have given the part to the next person they saw on the road)
#2) None of the lines in the movie were funny or quoteworthy
#3) I felt no emotion almost the entire movie, it was too lame (Tonto's story was sad but the rest...)
#4) The movie is rated PG13, there was a couple of gory and one pretty violent scene that make me agree with this, however the fight scenes were the stupid kinds 10 year old boys act out My next complaints are filled with spoilers
#5) why was Tonto on the train? No explanation is given
#6)The boy talking to the old Tonto, is the whole told story told by the old Tonto? If so why is he on display?!! If its just a wax figure, then its the boys imagination and in that case the movie just got twice as stupid
#7) The railroad is just being build, why did they already build two tracks side by side? So that the end fighting scene could conveniently take place?
I try to see some good in every movie, here is a cool "part"
This woman has a wooden leg that has a gun in it (but Tonto did not say "I want one of those!" I think he should have.) If you catch my PotC reference...
One thing I have to throw in here is that there was nothing wrong with the acting, and they had a good cast. It's the script writers I'dd like to have a word with...
Overall I think that the movie is not worth your time, I don't think I will watch it again and I don't recomend you to watch it if you are looking for a good movie. Movie sentence: "Bland overkill"
